Aplomado Falcon- Falco fermoralis

An occasional visitor to the Falklands. Steel grey upperparts and white, buff to rufous underparts with black barring forming a 'waistcoat'. Length: 40 cm (15.7 inches). The tail is long and distinctly banded black and white. Usually seen alone perched on post poles or bushes. In flight it is fast and low taking small birds and insects on the wing.

This falcon is found From Tierra del Fuego to SW USA.

American Kestrel- Falco sparverious

On the Falklands American kestrels are rare vagrants, although they possibly breed in very small numbers. A small falcon, recognised by the variegated patten on its head and face, and chestnut back and tail.

American kestrels are widespread and common in the Americas ranging from Tierra del Fuego to the Arctic treeline.
